Discovering Pia do Urso
We have always loved exploring traditional villages and natural destinations, and Pia do Urso, in the Batalha region, was an enchanting surprise. We had heard about the legend of bears drinking water from the naturally formed rock basins, but visiting this place exceeded all our expectations.
A Walk Through the Village
Upon arriving at Pia do Urso Village, we were immediately captivated by its rustic charm. The stone and wooden houses, perfectly restored, create a welcoming atmosphere and make us feel part of the region’s history.
What we found there:
- Cozy restaurants and cafés.
- Shops with regional products.
- Fountain and public restrooms.
- Immersive walking trails.

Exploring the Sensory Ecopark
The main attraction of Pia do Urso is, without a doubt, the Sensory Ecopark. The concept is simply incredible: a park designed for everyone, including visually impaired individuals, who can explore the environment through their senses. The entire trail is well-signposted, with informational plaques in Portuguese, English, and Braille.
What impressed us the most about the park:
- Interactive and educational trails.
- Fun stations about local flora and fauna.
- Representation of the Pia do Urso legend.
- Free entry and accessible to all.
We were amazed by the idea of an inclusive space where everyone can experience the natural beauty of the Serra de Aire e Candeeiros.
